Does this plugin delete my original images?
By default, yes: each original is replaced by its AVIF version. Turn on Keep originals (off by default) before you start, and the plugin stores every original so any conversion can be reversed.
What is the difference between AVIF and WebP?
Both are modern formats. AVIF is the newer of the two; WebP has the longer track record. The plugin converts your images to AVIF; WebP is offered only as a format for thumbnails.
How does the AI background removal work?
Background removal runs in your browser, one image at a time, using local machine learning — the image never leaves your computer. It is part of the plugin downloaded from rotozoom.com and is not in the WordPress.org edition. The current version has no cloud background removal.
What do I get in Free vs Pro?
There is no daily limit. Free covers AVIF conversion, trimming, pad-to-square, bulk library processing, optional backup of originals and in-browser AI background removal. Pro adds SEO filename renaming, a maximum image size and product-only scoping.
Can it automatically resize large image uploads?
Yes, on Pro. Trimming and padding to square are free; Pro adds a maximum image size that caps the longest side of new images, so oversized uploads are scaled down as they come in.
Does it replace my images, or keep the originals?
It replaces each JPEG and PNG with its AVIF version. The original is kept only when Keep originals is turned on — it is off by default, so switch it on before you convert if you want to be able to reverse a conversion.
